The NYSPFFA Annual Health & Safety Conference addresses occupational health and safety issues in the professional fire service and provides members with the knowledge and tools to keep firefighters safe.
The 2017 Health & Safety Conference will address topics such as Cancer in the Fire Service, Understanding and Reducing Cardiovascular Events in the Fire Service, Responding to and Preparing for Acts of Violence, Alternative Fuel Vehicles: Unique Hazards and Their Impact on the Fire Service, Fireground Command and Control, Review of the 2014 Beacon Street 9 Alarm Fire - "2 LODD", and Boston FD - Transforming the Departments Health and Safety Culture - Leading the fight Against Cancer.

All paid professional fire fighters are invited to attend these 3 days of informational sessions. The information you learn can be taken back to your locals for training.

Study on the Effect of Heat Stress and Dehydration on Cardiovascular Function by Skidmore College. "In order to better understand factors that contribute to cardiovascular strain, we designed a study to investigate the twin challenges of heat stress and dehydration that firefighters face every time they don their gear and answer a call."
