2/18 Update: The following is a note from Lee Adler:
Folks, we have an enormous number of fire fighters signed up for our event starting on February 28 in Ithaca. Thank you so much for joining us. Mike, Sam, and I have been caucusing with folks around the state about what we should do about the Friedrichs piece of our Tuesday program.
Due to Justice Scalia’s passing, we have modified the middle part of Tuesday’s program. Rather than discussing with the state police officers and one of our right to work presidents how we would precisely meet the challenge of collecting our dues, we will take a step back, analyze the forces that have created this situation, and discuss certain ideas and strategies for changing the nature of our local union structures to meet the challenges that we now know we will face indefinitely.
The way we have things presently constructed in our locals is not sufficient to withstand the attacks that the Right has in store for us.
We had some good conversations along these lines last month in Orlando at the IAFF ALTS Conference. Your NYSPFFA leadership and aging but still game prof believe we will make this middle section on Tuesday provocative and challenging to many of us.
We will still close on Tuesday with Arbitrator Doug Bantle and some banter about a couple of key ff cases recently decided so we believe that Tuesday will be a very strong but different day for all of us

1/15 Update: We have booked a block of overflow rooms at the Best Western University Inn, 1020 Ellis Hollow Road Ithaca, NY 14850. Their phone number is 607-272-6100. The rate per night will be $129.00 and there is a shuttle that goes to the Statler. The cutoff date for reservations will be February 11.
