Dear Brothers and Sisters,
As last night’s deadline for action by the Governor approached, I was advised Governor Andrew Cuomo would be signing into LAW legislation (Senate Bill No. 4622) extending protections for career fire fighters suffering job related cancers due to exposures to various carcinogens. This was a top priority for NYSPFFA. And, a protection you and your families have earned.
We also learned that legislation relating to the assignment of an independent hearing officer for disciplinary circumstances (Senate No. 5360) was VETOED. This outcome was anticipated due to recent court decisions that would have blunted the proposal.
By signing Chapter 432 into law – New York’s Professional Fire Fighters are better protected from the consequences of our dangerous profession.
