In Memory of Brother Dominick Timpano (UPDATED)

DTPhotoIt is with deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Brother Dominick Timpano. Dominick served his fire fighting career with Utica Local 32. He represented the NYSPFFA as Executive Vice President from 1974-1978 when he was then elected as Secretary/Treasurer, where he served until 1997.

Upon retiring from our Executive Board our membership voted to grant Dominick the position of Secretary/Treasurer Emeritus, which he has held ever since.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Timpano family. As arrangements become available we will pass them along.

Mr. Dominick A. Timpano, 86, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Dominick was born in Utica, November 10, 1929, a son of the late Gabriel and Carmella (Manella) Timpano. He was educated in local schools and graduated from T.R. Proctor High School in 1947. Dominick continued his education at Cornell University, Syracuse University, and the University of Wisconsin and Rutgers University, studying Labor Management. He served our country as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War. On June 28, 1952, Dominick was married to the former Kathleen Bifano. Dominick and Kathleen have shared over sixty-three loving years together, devoted to each other every step of the way.

In 1953, Dominick began a career with the Utica Fire Department, as a firefighter. He was with the department for over thirty-four years. During that time, he was president of the Local Firefighters Union 32 for ten years. Following his retirement, he began a career with New York State Professional Firefighters Association, where he served as their executive vice-president, secretary treasurer, and as a professional lobbyist. He was appointed by three state comptrollers to the Police and Fire State Advisory Council for the state retirement system. He was appointed by Gov. Mario Cuomo to the State Commission for Codes and Personnel; and was also vice chairman of the Civil Service Review Board for Firefighters. After over twenty years of service to the union, he retired in 1997.

Dominick was a devoted, husband, father, and grandfather, whose life revolved around his family. He lived the life of a true Christian gentleman and was devoted to his church, his community, and was always an advocate for the working man. He enjoyed playing golf, spending time at the camp at Sylvan Beach with his family, and always loved having a good Manhattan.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen; his five sons and three daughters-in-law, Gabriel and Denise Timpano, Joseph Timpano, and Dominick Timpano, all of New Hartford, Michael and Anne Timpano, of Clay, and Robert and Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.) Mary Jo Timpano, of Sylvan Beach; his grandchildren, Dominick and Kristen Timpano, Dr.’s Edmund and Shabana Walia Timpano, William Timpano, Michael and Abbey Timpano, Katie Timpano, and Madeline and Greg Jones; one great grandson, Blake Jones; and also many beloved cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Anna Timpano; sister-in-law, Marie Bifano; and his beloved in-laws, Joseph and Angeline Bifano.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from The Matt Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.

The family would like to offer their deepest thanks to Dr. Fred Talarico, Pat Rosati PA, and Sally O’ Callaghan FNP, for the loving care shown to Dominick during his illness.
