As Snow Piles Up, Firefighters Dig in – and Help Others Dig Out

Nov 21, 2014 | archives

As the snow continues to dump records amount of snow in Western New York, firefighters are at full force, responding to a multitude of urgent calls, including health emergencies, collapsed roofs and carports, stranded motorists and at least one child birth – at Engine 4 in South Buffalo.

Buffalo and Lackawanna professional firefighters have been responding to emergency calls in the hardest hit sections of their cities that received  4-5 feet of snow. Many members have been held at work or called in to make sure fire companies are fully staffed to deal with the snow emergency along with any normal call for help, according to Tom Barrett, vice-president of Local 282 firefighters’ union.

Below are some articles that call attention to their efforts and demonstrate the cooperative effort among local, county and state officials who have deployed the National Guard and who have enlisted the support of first responders from multiple regions of New York.

The state’s professional firefighters are devoted to their professions; the following news articles are testament.
