Statement from Sam Fresina, President of the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association, Regarding the Signing of the Cancer Extension Bill

Nov 30, 2017 | nyspffa_news

On behalf of more than 18,000 career fire fighters across New York State, and their families we appreciate Governor Andrew Cuomo’s support and recognition of the inherent risks and dangers faced by our members by signing into law Senate Bill No. 4622 (Assembly Bill No. 6403).

We thank Senator Martin Golden and Assemblyman Peter Abbate for their leadership in the legislature.

Each day fire fighters protect their communities and respond to emergencies – while facing extraordinary risk and peril.

And, it is not unusual for the women and men who serve, to be exposed to various carcinogens, poisons and toxins.  Despite taking the utmost care and receiving extensive training – we far too often learn, that year’s later, some are diagnosed with cancers and other conditions stemming from their duties and commitment to all New Yorkers.

By signing Chapter 432 into law – New York’s professional fire fighters know you stand with us – and those who we love.
