IDC Pushes Bill Making It Easier To Join A Union
With the left and labor unions recognizing May Day on Monday, the Independent Democratic Conference in Albany backed legislation that makes it easier to join a union.
The bill is aimed at simplifying the process for when a person joins a public-sector labor union and is aimed at combating so-called “right-to-work” requirements that weaken or strip collective bargaining powers.
The lead sponsor of the bill is Sen. Marisol Alcantara, a freshman lawmaker whose bid in a crowded Democratic primary for Senate last year was backed by IDC Leader Jeff Klein.
