I will also be providing a 1st District update including the timing when the Ethical Practices Committee (EPC) report will be completed.

As you know we have a convention scheduled to take place January 25-29th in Las Vegas, but because of the continued travel and meeting restrictions in the United States and Canada, the Board has prepared four options for how the Convention could be conducted. We will be voting at the Executive Board Meeting on October 22nd.

The four options are:

All in-person at Caesar’s Forum in Las Vegas

All in-person conducted in two separate locations (Caesar’s Forum in Las Vegas in the U.S. and Hyatt Regency Vancouver in Canada) simultaneously and connected digitally

Hybrid (in-person with virtual option)

Emergency Convention – all virtual

I do not believe that the first two options will be feasible. We will most likely select option 3 or 4. I will be discussing them during our caucus. In addition, as you already know we have elections that are scheduled to take place during convention. Many of the locals in the district have already come out in support of Jake Lemonda, L-854 for General Secretary Treasurer and Ed Kelly, L718, and our current GST for President. I have invited them to be on the call and hopefully you can take the time to listen to what they have to say. I believe a strong and unified voice from the First District on the convention and elections will send a message to the entire membership.

If you have not already done so hopefully you will register soon for the convention soon. I believe a virtual option will be available so that all locals can have a say at our convention when it comes to resolutions and well as the elections. The option for Proxy voting is still available, but why not register and let your voice be heard directly? I am including some important convention dates below for deadlines on resolutions and registration.

Please make sure at least one member of your Executive Board is on the call this Thursday. No locals are bound by any possible informal votes taken at the district caucus, but I certainly want your input.

Please note this meeting will take place with Go To Meeting. Check your email for link to meeting.

Fraternally,

Jim Slevin

Dear Brothers and Sisters, This Thursday at 10 AM I will be hosting a district caucus to discuss some important items that I am seeking your input on.
